Did you know that "Pit Bull" is not a breed,
it is a term used to describe three different breeds with
similar characteristics.
- American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT)
- American Staffordshire Terrier (AMSTAFF)
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier (STAFFY)
Did you know that for hundreds of years Pit Bulls were bred
to fight dogs,
certain traits were bred intot he bloodlines for that
purpose: high pain tolerance, high prey drive etc. However,
a quality not ever bred into Pit Bulls was human aggression.
Human agrressive dogs were undesirable as they required
extensive handling when fighting and prior to handling and
most of these were family pets, so human agrression was not
tolerated.
Did you know
that Pit Bulls are very athletic and many excel in positive
sporting events
such
as Agility, Flyball, Lure Coursing, Weight Pulling, Frisbee
etc. Did you also know that there are many Pit
Bull Registered Therapy Dogs.
Did you know
that in 2002 the American Temperament Testing Society
statistics listed that Pit Bulls and Rottweilers were all in
the 82%, meaning that
80 +% of the dogs tested passed the temperament test.
This is a very high percentage, especially when compared to
breeds which are common family dogs, like Golden Retrievers
who tested in at 77%. |
